THE mother and partner of Tony Sellars, who died following an assault in Fitton Hill, have paid tribute to him.

The 26-year-old was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Sunday, October 19, after suffering a serious head injury in South Croft, Fitton Hill. He was placed on life support but died two days later.

His mother Margaret (49) spoke of Tony’s love for boxing, especially Joe Calzaghe, and how much he was looking forward to becoming a dad.

She added: “Tony lived life to the full with a lot of supportive people and family around who loved him and cherish him. Not only have I lost a son, but his baby has lost a father. Wherever Tony has touched someone in his life they all feel a deep loss.”

His pregnant partner Aimee (21) has written a poem for Tony saying how much she will miss him: “It’s hard to put to paper, the way I feel today, to say how much I miss you, since you were taken away.

“Our parting was so sudden, I keep wondering why, the hardest part of all baby, is that you had so much to live for, and we never said goodbye.

“I love you so much, I always will.”

Ryan Hobin (20), of Glebe Street, Chadderton, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident.

He appeared at Oldham Magistrate’s Court on Friday and the case was adjourned until January 27 at Manchester Crown Court.

He was allowed conditional bail but the court stipulated that he was not to enter specific areas of Oldham and not to contact prosecution witnesses.
