Damieon Pickles: New York beat
AN Uppermill policeman will soon be an arresting sight on the streets of New York.
PC Damieon Pickles (37) is more used to the ways of the Saddleworth countryside than the concrete jungle of the metropolis.
But that will not stop him bursting forth in the world-famous New York Marathon on Sunday.
Damieon (pictured above), a father of three, has competed in the London Marathon with a finishing time of four hours, 43 minutes.
And this time training is going well for the policeman who lives in Middleton.
He said: “I regularly do a half marathon running from Middleton to Denshaw and back. So I have made a good start.
“I have never been to the States before and running through Manhattan and past the other world landmarks will be awesome.
“I already have got £1,200 in sponsorship.”
The money will be going to the PHABkids charity which helps children and young adults with learning difficulties to integrate into communities and help them to live a normal life.
