AN ambitious new sheltered housing complex in the heart of Royton is nearing completion.
The development in Rochdale Road will provide 59 flats within a complex built to extra care standards with the aim of transforming care for older people.
Tandle View Court is the largest development in a multi-million pound Private Finance Initiative (PFI), which will pay for the refurbishment and construction of selected sheltered housing complexes across Oldham. The PFI has already seen a new sheltered housing complex at Lees House and extensive refurbishment at Holland Close in Delph.
The Royton scheme, which is due to be completed at the end of the year, is the result of collaboration between Oldham Council, Housing 21, Allied Irish Bank and Bullock Construction.
Cabinet member for community services and housing, Councillor John McCann, said: “Once the build is completed at the end of this year, staff will undergo full training on site and all the new facilities, including a modern community alarm system, will be tested before residents move in during February, next year.
Ian Lewsey, communications manager for Housing 21, said: “We are delighted with the way the building is coming together and it will certainly be a great place to live.”
