HEARTS were beating fast at the Royal Oldham Hospital when former “X-Factor” contestant Scott Bruton made a surprise visit.
The 19-year-old, who was voted off the ITV show on Saturday, dropped in yesterday to thank nurses on the G1 ward for supporting him.
Scott, whose mother Joanne works at the Rochdale Road hospital, spent 30 minutes on the unit before visiting the children’s ward.
About his “X-Factor” exit, he said: “It happens and someone had to go. I’m looking at it as a glass half full. As long as I’m on the stage every week I’m happy.”
The young heartthrob, of Droylsden, also dismissed claims that he wanted to break free from the show’s contract which stopped contestants from releasing a song before the winner is announced.
He said: “That was a load of rubbish. I spoke to a friend about it who twisted my words and sold the story.
“I am happy with the contract and will abide by it. In the meantime, I am focusing on charity gigs and will do a few free for my local pub which has supported me throughout my time on the show.”
His message for the star-struck nurses on the G1 ward was: “Thank you to everybody for supporting me and standing behind me.”
Scott’s proud mother, a staff nurse said: “He came in to thank all of his supporters and we are all very proud of him.”
His biggest fan, staff nurse Lynne Walker, who led a support campaign throughout the hospital, added: “We have had posters of Scott on the ward and today we are absolutely star-struck. We love him.”
Scott was mentored by judge Simon Cowell, who he described as a diamond.
He said: “After the show Simon said it was one of those things and gave me advice on how to get better, but the whole experience was fantastic.”
About his rival Daniel Evans, who beat him, he added: “I wish Daniel all the best and I think he should win.”
