Young bike group form masterplan

YOUNG cyclists were given safety advice while having the chance to influence the future of a Chadderton park.
A free cycle awareness day at Chadderton Hall Park saw bike owners gather to learn basic bike fixes, safety and skills and have their say on how the green spot can be improved for cyclists.
A mobile police station was also present to give free security marking and information on bike security.
The event was organised because of the number of young cyclists using the park at evening and weekends —anything up to 40 children.
This led to agencies, including the Neighbourhood Policing Team, Oldham Council’s Parks and Countryside Development Group, Unity Partnership and local social enterprise Try-Cycles, investigating how to improve biking facilities.
Unity’s Cycling Officer Paul Bruffell said a working group is now developing a masterplan for the development of mountain bike routes, including BMX and off-road cycle activities.
He added: “The group aims to develop the plan over the coming months through consultation to ensure it reflects the long-term vision and aspirations of everyone in the community.”
