TWO Limehurst residents are off to London this week hoping to pick up a top housing award.
Dorothy Moore and Joyce Weir were heavily involved in extending and upgrading the Limehurst community hall and the nearby kick pitch for ball games.
The £200,000 improvements mean residents can take advantage of new fitness and bingo sessions.
The project was carried out by the Regenda Group, the estate’s landlords, and it has been short-listed for this year’s UK Housing Awards.
Dorothy and Joyce will find out if they are winners at a ceremony on Thursday in London.
The UK Housing Awards, organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing, are designed to recognise excellence across the social housing sector.
Limehurst is a finalist in the ‘Developing and Regenerating Communities’ category and was selected for working closely with local resident groups to make radical improvements to its community facilities.
Dorothy and Joyce were heavily involved in making the project happen and are now committed to running and managing the tenants’ hall.
Helen Barnes, Regenda’s Neighbourhood Renewal Manager, said: “I’m thrilled we are nominated but even more thrilled to see the residents of Limehurst enjoying and managing these facilities, ensuring their long-term viability, so future generations will be able to benefit from them too.”
