A PAIR of have-a-go hero brothers wrestled a thief to the ground after he attacked one of them with an iron bar.
David Jobey (22), of Seventh Avenue, Limeside, lashed out as he attempted to escape after he was caught breaking into one of the brothers’ car parked outside their house in Vicarage Street, Oldham, in the early hours of June 4, last year.
One of the family heard someone messing around outside with the Nissan and the brothers went to investigate.
As they approached Jobey, who was stealing a tool box from the car, he ran at them with a metal bar.
He hit one of the brothers around the head, but the other brother managed to force Jobey to the ground and the police were called.
Jobey was charged with theft causing actual bodily harm was given a jail sentence of 24 weeks suspended for 12 months and a community order for 12 months when he appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester.
He was also ordered to pay £250 to the victim of the assault and the court costs of £1,000.
Henry Blackshaw, defending, said: “The strongest piece of mitigation is that the recent offending has dipped.”
Judge Leslie Hull said: “The victim made a great recovery which is fortunate for both of you. I give you credit for your guilty plea.”
