SHAW man Jack Errock, who earlier this year picked up a rare Masonic honour for 50 years’ service, has died aged 78.
Mr Errock, who was born in Glodwick and who died at his home in Dingle Avenue, held many positions with Masonic lodges in Crompton, Dukinfield and Sale.
A former joiner who was with the RAF for his National Service, Mr Errock spent 25 years with the youth service and was recognised for his work in turning around a youth club on the challenging Langley estate in Middleton in the 1960s.
A widower after his wife of 46 years Barbara died in 1998, Mr Errock’s main hobby in retirement was restoring vintage motorcycles.
He leaves a son Dale, daughter Wendy and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, with service at East Crompton St James’s Church, Shaw, at 1pm.
