Dropped coins lead to prison
Date published: 05 November 2008
A butter-fingered burglar from Shaw has been jailed after he dropped some of the proceeds from a shop raid.
Robert McIntyre (28), of Rochdale Road, broke into Halfords in Torquay, Devon, with Andrew Henshall and stole two tills.
As the pair fled they dropped a trail of coins which a police dog tracked — and they were found hiding near by.
They both still had some of the stolen cash on them, prosecutor Ann Hampshire told Exeter Crown Court.
McIntyre and Henshall (28), from Torquay, both pleaded guilty to burglary and theft.
Each was jailed for 26 weeks, while Henshall was given a further 20 weeks for breaching a suspended sentence, to run consecutively.
