Shaw short-stay parking introduced
Date published: 06 November 2008
A NEW short-stay parking scheme along Shaw’s Westway has been made official.
Confusion initially surrounded the scheme after a sign, limiting free parking to three hours with no return during the day, was erected in Westway car park — angering traders who thought it would drive shoppers away.
But a notice from Oldham Council now makes clear that the sign refers to new parking bays that have since been painted along the road.
Previous double yellow lines have been removed and there are also bays for permit holders.
They have been introduced because there is no short-term parking in Shaw town centre.
The measure was just one of several new road regulations put to Shaw and Crompton Parish Council’s planning committee by Oldham Council.
Waiting restrictions have been put in place on parts of Mossgate Road and Rochdale Road in High Crompton and Cowie Street and Duchess Park Close in Shaw.
Experimental waiting restrictions have also been placed on Newtown Street, Shaw.
