Christmas fair to mark 50 years
Date published: 10 November 2008
THIS is a golden year for Oldham’s Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied (PHAB) group which is marking the national charity’s 50th birthday.
PHAB is for people with physical and learning disabilities and those who are able bodied.
And Oldham PHAB will celebrate with a Christmas fair on Saturday at the Honeywell Centre, Ashton Road, from 11am to 3pm.
The fair will raise awareness of the group and all proceeds will go towards funding group activities.
Oldham Roughyeds team captain Rob Roberts and team mascot Roary will be opening the event.
There will be games, a tombola, raffle, name the dog contest, guess the weight of the cake and guess the weight of the sweets jar competitions.
Football lovers can test their skills in a keep-uppy contest and a ladies’ football team beat the goalie game.
Staff from Oldham Council’s Youth Service and New Deal for Communities are in for a soaking in a special wet the workers game.
Entry is free and Father Christmas will be making a special appearance to give gifts to children.
The PHAB group meets every Monday at Fitton Hill Youth Centre from 7pm to 9pm. Contact Christine Seal on 0161-785 0369.
