Famous engine whistles up steam fans

SIR Nigel Gresley steams through Greenfield.
ONE of the fastest steam engines in Britain made its way through Saddleworth on Saturday.
Sir Nigel Gresley, named after the renowned engineer who built it, was a sister locomotive to the Mallard which set a world steam record of 126 miles an hour in 1938.
But on Saturday morning, the pace was relaxed as Sir Nigel Gresley, in blue livery, steamed through on its way to Manchester on a trip from Scarborough to Crewe.
The expedition was largely unannounced but a handful of photographers dotted the bridges for a picture of the famous locomotive.
