PRINCE and Princess . . . Katriona Benbow and Dominic Bailey meet the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar
YOUNGSTERS from Oldham are set to bring a regal touch to this year’s town centre Christmas lights switch on.
Eight-year-olds Dominic Bailey and Katriona Benbow, both of Chadderton, have been named the Tommyfield Market Prince and Princess. They will be the Mayor of Oldham’s special guests during Sunday’s Christmas lights switch on and fireworks event in the town centre. The pair stood out as the worthy winners from scores of entries.
Dominic was nominated by his mum Angela following a difficult time for the family after the loss of his dad. Katriona was nominated by her mum Patricia and was described as being a joy and a delight.
Dominic and Katriona will also receive £250 each in shopping vouchers. The pair will be presented to the crowd at the event alongside children’s television favourite Noddy, who will flick the switch. The competition’s runners-up Prince and Princess were Cameron Morgan and Marya Noor Javed.
