Actor to switch on lights
Date published: 13 November 2008
PLANS are now well advanced for the switch-on of Delph’s Christmas lights.
It is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, at 5.30pm and will see three main trees lit up in rotation.
This year, TV actor John Henshaw, who lives in Saddleworth, will perform the switch-on ceremony, assisted by master of ceremonies Gilbert Symes.
Father Christmas will be in attendance along with the Delph Brass Band. Members of churches in the village will lead the carol singing.
And there will be every opportunity to get into the swing of things with a Christmas party night at the civic hall, Uppermill, on Friday, December 5.
Tickets for the party are still available and revellers are advised to book early by ringing 01457-874539.
There are also plans for a magical Christmas grotto in Gartside Street.
A roast chestnut vendor is still being sought for the lights switch-on. Anyone who can help is asked to phone 01457-871387.
