More at the Euro trough — Davies

Date published: 14 November 2008

DISGRACED Tory MEP Den Dover may not be the worst offender over parliamentary expenses.

In February, Oldham Euro MP Chris Davies leaked details of a secret auditor’s report into the misuse of money for the payment of staff.

He now says that at least one Conservative MEP may finish his term in office next year with a family income inappropriately supplemented by more than £1 million.

But he said he welcomed commitments by all political parties involved in next year’s Euro elections to set high standards of financial proberty.

Yesterday Mr Davies and Oldham MEP for the UK Independence Party John Whittaker welcomed the action taken against MEP Den Dover over the abuse of expenses.

The Conservative Party has expelled Mr Dover after an inquiry found him guilty of expenses abuse and ordered him to repay more than £500,000.
