STAFF at Hills Panel Products in Oldham dressed as The Flintstones today to raise money for Children In Need.

Four employees at the Scottfield Road site became Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty as they collected for the cause at their trade counter.

The team made a huge effort to construct a Flintstones car and were hoping to raise £2,000.

Elsewhere in the borough, Springhead FC have had specially-embroidered armbands made for the club’s matches this weekend.

The captains, from the under-sevens to the senior teams, will each wear an armband featuring the image of Pudsey Bear. The teams will be looking to raise £600.

Fitness First, Moston, teamed up with Sainsbury’s Store in Oldham and have raised an impressive £500 for the special cause, but were taking part in a constant static bike cycle today to collect more.

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy’s studio in Shaw has introduced a parent week, where parents and grandparents paid £1 to dress up as teddies.

Its 48 branches across the UK have set a national target of £20,000.

Oldham College assistant principle Joan Griffiths was taken hostage — all in aid of Children In Need.

Creative arts students came up with the plot and are expected to raise more than £1,000 in donations for her release.

The team are due to attend tonight’s North West’s Children in Need evening at the Chill Factor, Trafford, to hand over the proceeds.


All star line-up pledged

Girls Aloud, Take That and a special edition of “Strictly Come Dancing” feature on Children In Need tonight.

Terry Wogan returns with Tess Daly and Fearne Cotton to host the annual fund–raising night. The seven–hour BBC1 show will also see McFly perform their Children In Need songs, “Do Ya”, and a cover version of Rod Stewart and The Faces’ hit “Stay With Me”.

The Osbournes, Jack Black and Stevie Wonder are among the celebrities who will be appealing for donations and the BBC newsreaders will also give a live performance. Other performers include the Sugababes, Boyzone, the Stereophonics and Il Divo.
