Charlie’s home — thanks to Chronicle

Leah and Daniel Johnstone reunited with their dog Charlie at Home in Belgrave Avenue, Hathershaw
A FAMILY have been reunited with their dog — thanks to a Chronicle appeal.
Charlie, an 18-month-old cavalier King Charles spaniel, went missing when a workman accidentally left a door open at the family’s home in Belgrave Avenue, Hathershaw.
Caroline Johnstone and her children Leah (7) and Daniel (9) were devastated and reacted by putting up posters, knocking on doors, contacting dogs’ homes — and the Chronicle.
They were particularly worried about Charlie’s welfare as he broke his two front legs in an accident when he was three-months-old and needs regular treatment.
Just as the family were about to give up hope they were called by staff at the Manchester Street Veterinary Surgery to say Charlie was safe.
Caroline said: “A woman had handed in Charlie to the vet, and because he is micro-chipped, staff were able to get our contact details. Leah and Daniel were over the moon when I brought him home and I have never seen them so happy.
“I am so grateful to have him back and I honestly think it was down to the story in the Chronicle. I am ever so thankful.”
