TALENTED dancer Sophie Regan was crowned a doubled regional champion at her very first competition.
The 14-year-old who attends Jaymar Dance Centre, Oldham, waltzed off with two titles at the IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association) Medalist of the Year competition at Wythenshawe Forum.
She won both the North-West’s under 16s girls ballroom and Latin competitions — only two years after her first lesson.
The Our Lady’s High School student has enjoyed street dance and freestyle for six years and has recently taken up old time sequence.
However, proud mum Tracey said: “She only took up ballroom two years ago and this was her first ballroom and Latin competition.
“We are thrilled and it was quite amazing watching her. We hoped she would do well and it was quite special to win two in the one day.”
Sophie, of Highfield Drive, Royton, danced at the competition with partner Mike Lomas (25).
Tracey added: “She dances on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and all day Saturdays and then she has got her homework as well — she hasn’t got time for anything else!
“It is just a passion. She loves it and it is what she wants to do when she is older.
“She gets nervous before competitions but she is lucky that she has a very good dance partner who is laid back.
“She has also got a very good dance teacher who encourages her to do more than perhaps she would.”
