LIFE is bearable again for 80-year-old Josephine Johnson tormented by unruly youths after police stepped up patrols and installed CCTV.
And Mrs Johnson, of Cromarty Avenue, Chadderton, has shown her appreciation by making a heartfelt donation of £20 to the Police Benevolent Fund.
She said: “We had a lot of bother with these youngsters before. They seemed to congregate near my house.
“Some were only 11 and 12 years old but they broke my fencing and they broke my gate. They also threw eggs at my windows.
“But things are better now. Police have put on patrols here and we all get a bit of peace.”
PCSO Jane Smith of Chadderton neighbourhood policing team, who received the cheque, said: “We have been working closely with Mrs Johnson and the youths involved to resolve the problem of anti-social behaviour.”
Insp David Willcocks said: “This is a great result for both the Chadderton neighbourhood policing team and residents and it is an example of successful co-operation between police and the community.
“We thank Mrs Johnson for her donation. The Police Benevolent Fund assists police officers and their families in times of need. It is motivating that our work is appreciated.”
