Michael Meacher MP visits Rathbone charity.
OLDHAM West MP Michael Meacher has visited a charity that has helped thousands of vulnerable young people transform their lives.
Staff at Rathbone invited him to help them celebrate their move from Brunswick Street to Union Street.
Centre manager Paul Dean said: “There are more than 8,500 16 to 18-year-olds who are out of work or education in our borough.
“If we want to stop them becoming a lost generation we must encourage them to acquire the qualifications and experience employers are looking for.”
As well as meeting staff and trainees and taking a look at training rooms, IT equipment and the new kitchen, Mr Meacher unveiled a plaque to open the premises. He said: “The work undertaken by Rathbone is invaluable in giving young people the skills to enter the workplace.”
