FROM take-away owner to top law student — that’s Annie Cheng-Withey.
And her outstanding achievement has been rewarded with a £250 cheque from Wrigley Claydon Solicitors.
Student of the Year Annie, from Middleton, ran a Chinese takeaway with her mum before pursuing her dream of a law career.
This year she became the first student to gain a first class (hons) LLB law degree from University Centre Oldham (UCO).
The 31-year-old, who is continuing her studies at BPP Law School, Manchester, said: “Being a mature student does help at lot, there is a lot more determination and commitment. A lot of my classmates are focussed, but I think I have got that much more to prove to myself and others.”
It is the second time Annie has won the annual accolade, which is handed out by the Oldham firm to the top performing law student at UCO.
Tutor Gerald Swaby said: “Annie is an ideal inspiration to all potential law students as to what they can achieve with hard work and dedication.”
