Listen up . . . don’t forget to check your hearing

STAFF at Oldham’s Specsavers store were all ears when it came to handing out free hearing tests.
Employees at the Curzon Street store’s hearing centre enlisted the help of the Big Ear to round up shoppers and hand out advice.
Neil Hackett, the store’s hearing expert, offered customers a video otoscopy examination to give a rare insight into the health of their ears.
Neil said: “Many people are either unaware that they need their hearing checked regularly, or put it off because they’re worried about addressing the problem.
“The majority of those who are partially deaf or hard of hearing can correct the problem with a hearing aid, but it’s thought that up to a million people who would benefit from wearing one remain undiagnosed having failed to get their hearing regularly checked.
“It’s important to have hearing checks as regularly as you would have a sight test, which is recommended every two years. This becomes even more important past the age of 55 when age-related hearing loss is most likely to occur.
“We’re urging people to call in to get a hearing heath check or have an informal chat about any concerns they may have.”
