Jessica and Sabrina are teen treasures

TWO teenage girls who impressed their teachers through their work in the community have been rewarded.
The Lord Rhodes prizes for voluntary work have been presented this year by the chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council, Councillor Pat Lord to Jessica Bird as winner and Sabrina Miles as runner-up.
Both girls are pupils at Saddleworth School they were nominated by teachers.
Jessica (15), of Lees, is a carer for her wheelchair bound mother.
In addition, she takes a lead role in looking after the younger members of her family especially when her mum has to attend medical appointments.
Sabrina (16), of Uppermill, is a volunteer on Thursday evenings helping to run a local netball club for boys and girls aged 2-8 years.
She coaches athletics on Fridays for children aged four to six, coaches and umpires at Saddleworth Olympics and helps out with sports leadership at school. She is also a member of Dobcross Youth Band.
Saddleworth School deputy head teacher Graham Hall said: “These pupils have gone the extra mile. We are very proud of them.” The chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council, Councillor Pat Lord, said: “Both girls did extremely well. Jessica as a carer for her mother round the clock and Sabrina does a lot of work in the community.”
The prizes, which have been awarded annually for more than 10 years, are £75 for the winner and £25 for the runner-up.
