Pensioner escapes fireworks attack
Date published: 24 November 2008
A PENSIONER had a lucky escape when youths threw a firework through his front door on Saturday night.
The man was asleep at his home in Conrad Close, Sholver, at 10pm when the offenders struck.
His front door was well ablaze when a neighbour spotted the flames and woke him up. His smoke alarm was also activated.
Paul Dixon, crew commander at Oldham fire station, said: “The police are treating this incident as arson and are now investigating.
“It’s lucky the resident had a smoke alarm and that his neighbour acted quickly or this incident could have been much worse.”
