A winter wonderland
Date published: 25 November 2008
A SHAW church will become a winter wonderland this weekend with 24 festive trees.
Holy Trinity, Church Road, has been overwhelmed with support from charities and businesses for its first Christmas Tree Festival on Friday and Saturday.
The church has provided the trees and stands and charities and businesses have pledging to decorate all of them.
There will be money boxes at the base of each tree for donations. Organisations such as the Royal British Legion, RNLI, guide dogs, Scope and Christie’s are involved.
Money raised will be divided between the charities and the church restoration fund.
There will also be festive stalls and an all-day festive cafe.
The festival runs from 10am to 4pm and will be officially opened by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar, at 10.30am on Friday. There will be a Songs of Praise service on Sunday at 3pm to close the event.
