Regeneration update
Date published: 26 November 2008
MEMBERS of Werneth Community Council were given an update on regeneration work at last night’s meeting.
Council representatives informed residents about work that has been completed as part of the Housing Market Renewal programme and said negotiations were in place with Oldham Primary Care Trust for a new health centre near St John’s Church on Featherstall Road.
Councillor Fida Hussain urged the council to take action over Hartford Mill, which, he said, was an “eyesore”.
He was told that the council was still working on a solution.
Plans to update Werneth Park music rooms have been put on hold due to lack of funds.
RESIDENTS were urged to be vigilant after a rise in house burglaries.
PC Mark Clough reported 15 burglaries in the area between September 24 and November 25.
He said: “The majority of these were through insecure doors. I would urge people to be vigilant and keep their premises locked — put padlocks and chains on gates if you have driveways.”
There were 43 reports of criminal damage to cars and six robberies along Union Street West, Frederick Street and Manchester Road.
PC Clough also reported 37 instances where vehicles were broken into and items stolen and 12 vehicles were also taken.
GROUNDWORK Oldham and Rochdale’s 20 ward clean-up challenge is back.
Jo Foreman, community project officer, is inviting residents to get involved in the Werneth clean-up on January 5.
Anyone interested should call Jo on 0161 624 1444.
