Bar too far for panto stars
Date published: 26 November 2008
FANS have tried and failed — so it was the turn of the pantomime comics to add some drama to Oldham Athletic’s Crossbar Challenge.
The contest allows up to six supporters at each home game to try to hit the crossbar from around 40 yards, with two 10-year season tickets up for grabs for anyone who is successful.
But after the latest set of fans missed, up stepped two stars from Oldham Coliseum’s panto “Aladdin” to try their luck in full costume.
Barrie Ryan English, who plays PC Ping and the Genie, and Fine Time Fontayne, alias Widow Twankey, were also off target at half-time of Latics’ match against Walsall at Boundary Park last night.
