SADDLEWORTH School celebrated record GCSE results at its annual presentation evening.
And head teacher Patricia Cornish also looked to the future with proposals for a new school included in Oldham’s £230 million plans to transform secondary education.
More than 420 awards were handed out to pupils yesterday at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham.
Guests were told that the 2007-8 school year began with a glowing Ofsted report which described Saddleworth as “a good school which cares well for its pupils and provides a good standard of education”.
Record GCSE results this year meant 73 per cent of pupils gained at least five A* to C GCSEs, 60 per cent including English and Maths.
Mrs Cornish said: “One hundred per cent of the year group gained at least one award. In fact, 98 per cent of them gained at least five. Congratulations to these pupils and their teachers and to their mums and dads, All the hard work paid off.”
Mrs Cornish highlighted sporting, work experience, musical, extracurricular and other achievements, which included a trip to the Beijing Olympics by pupils, some of whom were trained as sports reporters for the BBC.
She added: “I am sure we will have no shortage of good stories to tell in a year’s time.
“Indeed we look forward to hearing more of the authority plan for our school to have a brand new building and location under the Building Schools for the Future programme.”
