A BRIDE-TO-BE, who was to fly to her honeymoon from terrorist-ravaged Mumbai, was today rescheduling her plans.
Dr Tej Kaur (26), whose family run Dobcross Post Office, is to marry near Delhi next month.
They are hosting a lavish reception for more than 500 guests flying in from around the world.
After a civil wedding in England, Tej, a doctor in Leeds, and her husband, Purav Desai (27), a doctor at Hope Hospital, Salford, are to take part in a huge celebration at her grandfather’s farm estate.
And although the Sikh wedding will be hundreds of miles from the attacks which killed more than 100 people, the couple were planning to fly from Mumbai to to their honeymoon in the Maldives.
The bride’s family, who have run Dobcross Post Office for nine years , today said they were still planning to leave the UK for Delhi, to ensure wedding plans go ahead.
Harpal and Kulwant Singh will be taking Tej and her sister, Barinder, to join the bridegroom’s family.
Their son, Suhki (25), is Dobcross village postmaster and chairman of Dobcross Community Association.
He said: “The wedding has taken a year to plan. It is a huge affair with a host of parties for family and guests before the ceremony.
“Some of our Saddleworth friends are coming to join us and we are determined that everything will go to schedule.
“There will be 40 members of our family going from the UK, another 110 from Australia, Europe and other countries around the world — plus the bridegrooms’ family.
“I have been bombarded with telephone calls from guests asking if the wedding is still taking place. We have no plans to cancel as yet. But because of the dreadful happenings in Mumbai, my sister and her fiance have cancelled their flights and are rescheduling from a different airport.
“It is horrific to think such a terrible thing could happen. We really hope things settle down very soon.”
One of the Singhs’ guests, Kenneth Mills from Saddleworth, said: “The wedding itself is mega-miles from this terrible situation.
“However, we are keeping a day-by-day watch and I plan to stay in touch with the Foreign Office for updates.”
