Christmas tree festivals grow in popularity
Date published: 01 December 2008
More than 250 people went to church at the weekend — to help choose a Christmas tree.
The Christmas tree festival at Sacred Heart Church, Uppermill, was successful for a second year running.
It gave visitors the chance to choose a festive tree for their home and raise money for the church and next year’s Yorkshire Day in Saddleworth at the same time.
Organiser Brenda Cockayne said: “It was a lovely day in the church and very useful for those who attended.
“We now estimate we have raised about £1,000.”
