Chadderton crowds join switch-on fun

HUNDREDS of visitors flocked to Chadderton precinct on Friday for the annual lights switch-on with entertainment for all from 12noon.
Visitors sampled festive fare including mulled wine at the various market stalls, and children enjoyed mini fairground rides.
Carols and songs were provided by Chadderton Band as well as Mills Hill and St Herbert’s school choirs.
Special guests included Chadderton Town Crier Reg Lord and Father Christmas, who was aided by the first Chadderton Prince and Princess Cyle Bell (8) and Claire Bradburn (8).
The big switch-on came at 6pm with Oldham Athletic mascot Chaddy the Owl helped by competition winners Ellie Faulkner (10), Tristan Jones(11) and Amy Prince (10) to light up the town.
Michael Lawson, Chadderton lighting sub-committee, said: “The switch on was marvellous, a resounding success.
“We’ve been having a Christmas light switch-on for the last few years and it just keeps getting bigger and better.
“There is a wonderful growing community spirit in Chadderton.”
