TWO members of staff have been suspended from a Royton care home following allegations of abuse.
Worried relatives spent the weekend trying to obtain information on what had happened at the Edge Hill Residential Home, Oldham Road, Royton.
Today, Mr Tom Wolstenholme, a spokesman for Oldham’s Adult Social Services confirmed that an investigation had started.
It is understood that the police, social care and health authorities are involved.
The nursing home accommodates 36 residents in 28 single and four shared rooms. It caters for older age, short stay and respite clients.
Councillor Brian Lord, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “I am very shocked to hear about this and will be personally looking into it.”
Councillor Steve Bashforth, representing Royton South, said: “I am quite sure there will be a full and thorough investigation which will be open and transparent.”
A member of staff at Edge Hill declined to comment in the absence of a more senior official.
An inspection of the home, in 2006, rated it as “good” with two stars.
