Art duo’s winning designs

TWO talented young artists have had a brush with fame.

The Delph Primary School pair — eight-year-old Derry Lewis and Alexandra Ransome (10) — were among 36 youngsters nationwide who were picked as regional junior painters of the year out of 9,000 entries in the Sightsavers International competition.

Each had to paint a scene they would most like to see to help raise awareness of global blindness.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “They both worked very hard and did the work in their own time.”

Competition judge Maurice Cockrill, keeper of the Royal Academy of Arts, said: “We were all very impressed with the quality and strength of entries.”

The winning paintings will now be displayed at the world-renowned Royal Academy of Arts in London.
