Street performers wow shoppers
Date published: 03 December 2008
ENTERTAINERS battled freezing temperatures as Victorian-themed performers took to the town centre streets.
The Hilton Arcade Christmas Experience show attracted more than 300 shoppers passing through the promenade show on Saturday and Sunday.
Dobcross Youth Band and Boarshurst Silver Band entertained crowds as they hunted for Christmas bargains.
There were regular Punch and Judy shows, barrel organ performances, stilt-walking policemen and a Queen Victoria lookalike.
Other popular attractions included a town crier, Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, a Victorian Oldham walk and a special exhibition at the Local Studies Library.
This weekend’s Christmas event sees a mini ice-rink in Market Place.
