School flooded

A BURST water main caused a flood at an Oldham primary school last night.
Fire fighters spent two hours clearing away the deluge at Westwood County Primary School, Middleton Road, Busk after being called out at 11pm.
They said the burst happened on Middleton Road, where part of the road between Westbourne Street and Featherstall Road North was closed, at 10.40pm and water swept down into the school. The likely cause was the cold weather.
Chadderton Fire Station watch manager Mike Harris said the school would be shut today and that the nursery part of the school was the most affected.
He said: “We got rid of all the water but it was severely flooded. There was water damage to the floor coverings. We diverted water away from the school to start salvaging the situation.
“Unfortunately, we tried to get sandbags from the Highways Department but they were busy gritting.”
A Halal restaurant on Middleton Road also suffered slight water damage but fire fighters managed to divert most of the water away from it.
