Cancer charity’s plea for helpers
Date published: 05 December 2008
MARIE Curie Cancer Care fears it could lose hundreds of pounds in donations because of a shortage of volunteers in Failsworth.
The charity is preparing for its Great Daffodil Appeal next March, but it needs volunteers to help make the annual event a success.
The money from the appeal helps provide one-to-one nursing care for terminally ill people in their own home in Oldham and the surrounding area.
Community fundraiser Julie Peters said: “Many shops and businesses in Failsworth have already offered to support the appeal by displaying a box of daffodils on their counter but we now need the volunteers to help us look after the boxes.
“When a local volunteer looks after the boxes we generally raise more money, as having a local face dropping the box off and picking it up really does make a difference.
“We have some truly wonderful volunteers in Oldham who give their time to help with this each year, but this year we desperately need volunteers in Failsworth.
“We have five dedicated Marie Curie Nurses in Oldham who will provide over 3,555 hours of care this year.
“Please get in touch today if you can help and would like to be part of our Great Daffodil Appeal.”
