Catalogue bride!

A WEDDING dress made from an Argos catalogue and a skirt of old umbrella material were just two items at a fashion show with a difference.
Gallery Oldham showcased clothing and sparkling garden sculptures made from recycled materials.
The idea for the green collection came from a group of girls, aged 12-16 who regularly meet at Asha — a Barnardo’s community project in Coldhurst.
The girls were inspired by the “Respect our Community Award Scheme”, organised by First Choice Homes Oldham.
They got a grant for £4,100 to create their eco clothing and sculptures to promote recycling in their area..
In the last two months, the 12 girls have made 10 items for the fashion show and exhibition, recording their work on film to share their recycling message with a wider audience.
Kalpna Patel, Asha’s development worker, said: “It’s been great watching the girls working and enjoying this project.”
Local support for the project has been provided by Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale, Oldham Council’s waste minimisation officer, Joanne Stanley, arts development officer, Rachel Woods and local schools.
