THE dark moorland villages are sparkling with festive lights after popular actor John Henshaw popped in for a special switch-on ceremony in Delph.
John is currently starring in the Post Office commercials but has been involved in a string of TV hits including “The Royle Family” and “Early Doors”.
And as a Saddleworth resident, he was keen to get involved.
John was ably supported by master of ceremonies Gilbert Symes and the Delph Brass Band, not forgetting Father Christmas himself. Carol singers hit the high notes, with members of local churches leading a grand procession through the streets.
Elsewhere, local children gathered around to help Santa push the plunger to light up the streets of Uppermill, with a towering tree serving as the spectacular centrepiece.
The switch-on was the culmination of a weekend packed with festive activity, which began with a Christmas party night at Uppermill’s civic hall on Friday and also included a magical Christmas grotto on Gartside Street.
