Tributes to a man ‘everyone liked’
Date published: 09 December 2008
TRIBUTES have been paid to a father who was crushed in a horrific accident at an engineering firm.
Nigel Lindley (47), of Bourne Road, Shaw, was seriously injured when a metal sheet fell on him at Renold Gears, Milnrow.
Workmates battled to free him before paramedics arrived. He was taken to Rochdale Royal Infirmary and transferred to Hope Hospital where he died the next day, November 28.
An investigation has been launched.
Nigel had two teenage daughters, Sophie and Robyn, and his partner, Gail, has three children.
A keen angler, he worked at Tight Lines angling centre, Shaw, for four months before joining Renold Gears 18 months ago.
He was a member of Shaw Road Demolition Squad, Twingate and Diggle angling clubs.
Tight Lines owner Jeff Platt described him as a respected match angler and said: “He was jovial, a salesman through and through, and very helpful. He was a smashing person, it’s a tragedy.”
Oldham Chronicle angling correspondent Jan Verbruggen said: “Anyone who knew Nigel would know what a character he was, with jokes aplenty and a real positive outlook. He was liked by all and was a very good angler.”
The funeral will be held on Friday and an inquest is yet to be opened.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “A man was taken to hospital following the incident, however, his injuries were too severe and he died on the afternoon of Friday, November 28.”
