Theatre group’s 40th birthday success
YOUNG performers at Oldham Theatre Workshop are putting the final touches to their Christmas show which marks the group’s 40th anniversary.

“The Holly Scroggler” is a tale of a girl’s determination to bring the spirit of Christmas back to a Northern town. It’s a fictional take on the “scroggling” that occurs in Haworth, Yorkshire each year.

The event sees children gathering — scroggling — holly before laying wreaths at the local church to welcome the start of Christmas.

Set in 1851 against the backdrop of the wild Yorkshire moors, the play finds Nellie young and poor in a world where the few have plenty but most have nothing.

When she meets the mysterious Mr Fizzlewick her life takes an unexpected turn, one that will see her bring hope to the hopeless and the spirit of Christmas back to Haworth.

Tickets are now available for the show with performances from tonight to Saturday, December 20, at The Museum in Greaves Street. Call 0161-770 3240 for tickets.
