Developments put on the map
Date published: 10 December 2008
OLDHAMERS can now see what developments are happening in their neighbourhood on the Internet.
Oldham Council has developed a web-based mapping tool for residents to discover what regeneration activity is happening in their area.
They can view the progress on the council’s website of any physical developments being planned and implemented.
The system was developed by regeneration staff and Cadcorp, leading developers of digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software.
Cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Mohib Uddin, said: “This is a great tool for people to find out more about what is going on in their area.
“They can see where new developments such as health centres are going to be built.
“I would like to encourage people to have a look at our website and check out these interactive maps.”
Cadcorp managing director Mike O’Neil said: “We are delighted to be working with Oldham Council on its regeneration work and to open more opportunities for everyone to have a look at what’s going on. It’s an exciting time to be involved.”
The interactive plans show all regeneration activity at both a borough-wide and at a more local level, with detailed information on each activity in all the 10 area committee areas.
For example, you can see a range of projects to improve community and road safety as well as environmental projects, masterplan areas and regeneration programme areas such as New Deal for Communities.
