TIGHT spot . . . this Ford Ka squeezed down the pavement in Huddersfield Road
This Ford Ka caused a major road closure in Huddersfield Road, Oldham, when it went down the pavement and hit a gas pipe.
The car ended up on the wrong side of the bollards, near Barry Street, squeezing down the footpath outside a row of shops when it hit the pipe.
Police closed the road at Hill Stores and and called in the National Grid to seal off the leak and restore supplies. Exactly how the car came to rest is not clear. Police were called to investigate.
A National Grid spokeswoman said: “There was a large escape of gas. As the car had damaged the property, building inspectors were contacted to inspect the damage and to decide whether there is any remedial work needed.”
