Warmer homes
Date published: 15 December 2008
HUNDREDS of homes in Fitton Hill have been transformed into warm, inviting properties with modern facilities.
In March, 2004, 1,250 council properties were transferred to Villages Housing. A number were demolished leaving 988 needing work.
Villages Housing had the challenge of bringing the homes up to the Government’s Decent Homes Standard by 2010.
A lot of work has been done over the past four years to help meet the standard which stipulates homes should be warm and weatherproof with modern facilities.
So far, Villages Housing has installed 748 kitchens and 695 bathrooms and upgraded central heating in 855 homes.
Insulation has been improved in 609 properties while 407 have had replacement windows. Contractors are on target to meet the 2010 deadline.
When the stock was transferred, New Deal for Communities gave Villages Housing £6.9 million to fund the work.
Villages Housing will be embarking on an environmental programme across the estate in the New Year including additional car parking and improvement to green spaces in Fitton Hill.
A range of consultation events will happen early next year when residents will be able to have their say on the proposals.
