Schools have the ‘X-Factor’
Date published: 16 December 2008
WANNABE singing stars have taken part in a borough-wide X-Factor-style competition — in a foreign language.
Primary schools linked up through video conferencing equipment for the competition where all the songs were sung in a foreign language.
Children from Holy Trinity CE Primary in Dobcross hosted the competition involving 20 acts from 15 schools.
During the afternoon, the host school performed Spanish songs to all the entrants.
But the winners were judged to be Year 6 pupils from St Mary’s CE School, High Crompton, who received a trophy.
Councillor Kay Knox, Cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “This is a really innovative and enjoyable way to put modern foreign languages into practice.
“Oldham schools are making excellent use of video conferencing equipment.
“It enables pupils from different areas of Oldham to collaborate and take part in learning projects together which is fantastic.”
