FESTIVE spirit was out in force during two Christmas light switch-ons in Failsworth and Hollinwood.
Crowds braved the cold and gathered at the former Roxy cinema site in front of the Hollinwood Christmas tree.
About 70 visitors enjoyed music by St Margaret’s church choir and St Margaret’s Primary School choir, and Father David Hawthorn, from St Margaret and St Chad’s Church, blessed the tree and the community.
Area Inspector Dave Stopford was given the honour of switching on the lights which were bought by the Hollinwood Area Committee.
Meanwhile, 100 people attended the Failsworth Christmas light switch-on which saw Rev Adrian Matthews, from St John’s Church, bless the tree.
Failsworth band Puressence were special guests and helped turn on the Christmas tree lights.
Even the Failsworth Pole was draped with sparkling new decorations, paid for by Failsworth Area Committee.
A carol service was led by the New Life Church Band and in attendance were the Failsworth Carnival Queens, local councillors, MP David Heyes and even Father Christmas.
