CHILDREN at St Thomas’s Moorside Primary are beaming with healthy smiles — and now they have an award to prove it.
Pupils have been awarded the prestigious Platinum Tooth Friendly Award for looking after their teeth.
The school is already a proud owner of a Gold Tooth Friendly Award, and when an oral health adviser from Oldham NHS paid a visit to discuss how they can get a platinum award, they sank their teeth into the task.
To get the award, changes had to be made in what was sold at the school fruit tuck shop, run by the children, in particular pure orange juice which has a detrimental effect on dental health because of its acidity.
The school council took the arguments for and against to their individual classes and the children voted to take the necessary measures.
