Bakery’s ‘forests from phones’ appeal
Date published: 22 December 2008
A LOCAL bakery is putting the call out for old mobile phones this Christmas.
Greenhalgh’s is calling all customers to recycle old mobile phones as part of the Woodland Trust’s “Plant a tree” initiative.
Freepost envelopes will be handed out in stores between Boxing Day and New Years Eve.
David Smart, production director at Greenhalgh’s, said: “Recycling mobile phones is such a simple way to help the environment.
“For every mobile phone recycled regardless of its age or condition, the Woodland Trust receives a guaranteed £2.50.
“If just one per cent of the estimated 60 million unused mobile phones were recycled the Woodland Trust could plant 300,000 trees.
“That’s an incredible 400 football pitches worth of woodland.”
The mobile phone recycling scheme is a national campaign organised by the Woodland Trust, the UKs leading woodland conservation charity.
