All that glitter . . . win prizes!

RESIDENTS and businesses have been rewarded for brightening up the festive season.
Saddleworth Parish Council again judged the Christmas lights and first prize for the best illuminated pub went to The Swan, Dobcross with second prize going to The Swan in Delph.
Best illuminated shop was Ian South (Butchers), Greenfield; with Fine Buys, High Street, Uppermill, runners-up.
Highly commended was Face and Body on Oldham Road, Grotton.
The best illuminated large house prize went to Alex Kershaw on Thornley Park Road, Grotton, and second prize winners were Graham and Linda Elmore on Oakdene Farm, Harrop Green Lane, Diggle.
Tom Newbold and Michael Powis, of Wood Lane, Dobcross scooped the best illuminated small residential property, with Peter and Tricia Percival of Clayton Close, Springhead, coming in a close second.
Highly commended in this category was Dave Morris, of Saddleworth Bank, The Square, Dobcross, and Pat Bottom, St Mary’s Drive, Greenfield.
A special community prize went to Dobcross village and highly commended for their combined sparkling display were the residents of Claytons Close in Springhead.
Each prize-winner received an engraved silver salver, while everyone else was presented with a certificate.
Council clerk Tony Marlour said: “We advertised the competition and people sent us details of who should be awarded prizes.
“We then went out and chose the winners and runners-up. The quality of lights has definitely improved.”
