Gaza protest plea
Date published: 02 January 2009
A Saddleworth councillor is urging local people to support a march against the Israeli attacks on Gaza in Manchester tomorrow.
Parish councillor Ken Hulme has already taken part in candlelit vigils which take place outside the BBC offices in Oxford Road, Manchester, each night from 5 to 6pm.
And on Saturday there will be a march around Manchester city centre starting at noon, from Cavendish Street, All Saints Park in Oxford Road, followed by a rally.
The Palestinians in Manchester and Their Friends march will be made up of various groups including Greater Manchester Stop the War Coalition, Manchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Palestinians in Manchester.
Councillor Hulme said: “I attended last night’s candle lit vigil outside the BBC and it was dignified and remarkably well-attended.
“I hope to be on the march on Saturday — with the Saddleworth Peace Movement Banner — and I hope people who are as concerned as I and many others are about the situation will support us.”
