Steady as they go . . . Oldham Mountain Rescue team stretcher off a woman with a suspected broken ankle
A WOMAN was stretchered to safety after breaking her ankle while out walking on New Year’s Eve.
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was called into action at 11.25am after the 29-year-old suffered the injury near Chew Reservoir, Dovestone.
The woman, from Levenshulme, Manchester, had slipped on a patch of ice.
She was taken to Dovestone and transferred to an ambulance at about 1pm.
The mountain rescue team was also called out on Boxing Day morning after a dog-walker broke his leg in Daisy Nook Country Park.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, had stumbled on uneven ground at about 6am.
His colleague went to find help but got lost finding his way out of the park so the team had to search the park to find the injured man.
The man, who broke his leg in a wooded area just off a major path near the south eastern side of the park, was found quickly by the team.
After his dog was restrained, team members approached the man and gave him painkillers before his leg was put into a splint and he was stretchered off to a waiting ambulance.
Despite the incidents, Denzil Broadhurst, the mountain rescue team’s deputy team leader, said: “Apart from the two incidents, this Christmas and New Year period has been fairly quiet.”
